Berkhamsted School

"We still have much we want to do and we now have a clear framework to help us"

"We are absolutely delighted to have achieved Technical Champions GOLD STANDARD. Before making our application for the award, we found the resources provided by Technical Champions to be extremely helpful in focusing on every aspect of the essential work our technicians do, and it encouraged us to work across departments to consider our practice and how we could improve.

Even before we filled in a single form, we found ourselves wanting to develop and work together to do it. We still have much we want to do and we now have a clear framework to help us. It was a really positive experience and one I recommend to any school."

"...an amazing honour and opportunity"

"To be the first school in the country to be awarded the Technical Champions - Gold Standard is an amazing honour and opportunity. For many years I have been promoting the amazing work and impact that technicians across the country have on students practical experience within education.

I hope this will be the start of a hugely positive movement within education, that secondary schools and colleges give true recognition and celebrate the work of their technical staff."

The STEAM technician team, Sutton High School

"Technical Champions will encourage schools to invest in their technicians"

"The STEAM technician team at Sutton High School was thrilled to hear the school had achieved the Gold Standard award.

As soon as I mentioned (applying for) Technical Champions to our head, she said ‘absolutely’ as she knows the STEAM subjects cannot survive without us technicians. She fully supports us in everything we do and understands we are an integral part of the school.

Technical Champions will encourage schools to invest in their technicians either through training, opportunities within the school or pay, especially if other schools are achieving the mark but they are not."

Vanda Rajewski, lead STEAM technician at Sutton High School.

"I would recommend taking part in Technical Champions to any school"

"I would recommend taking part in Technical Champions to any school. The work of technicians in education deserves to be valued and recognised and this programme allows a school to acknowledge and celebrate the fantastic work that technicians do in supporting, inspiring and developing learning on a day-to-day basis. These ‘unsung heroes’ can easily go unnoticed, but a school where the technician team is appreciated, developed and challenged to take a wider part in school life, is all the better for it. The process of applying for the Technical Champions Award helped to identify and consolidate the amazing work our technicians do at Sutton High School and the feedback was incredibly useful in celebrating their achievements and the pivotal role they take in our community."

Beth Dawson, Head, Sutton High School.
